Study: Shocks to heart may shorten life For people at risk for sudden cardiac arrest, implanted heart defibrillators can be a lifesaver, delivering an electric shock to correct an irregular heartbeat. But new research suggests that people who receive shocks from these devices are more likely to die later on.
